Do you believe in love at first sight?
Allie McHale is spending this brutal Christmas Eve snowstorm in a barn in Marietta, Montana when suddenly she hears a horrible crash on the freeway near her ranch. She discovers a handsome lone survivor, a prisoner in handcuffs, and despite her apprehension about harboring a criminal, she rescues him anyway.
Jacob Reeves, on his way to Seattle to testify against his organized crime family, is miraculously saved by the most beautiful woman he’s ever laid eyes on, who has every reason not to trust him, but getting through a freezing Christmas Eve forces them to work together to survive.
During the long night, their chemistry is off the charts and Jake realizes that Allie could be the love of his life. But as soon as the storm is over, he’ll be gone. Is Jake destined to break both of their hearts, or will a Christmas tragedy end in a miracle?
This is a really sweet Christmas tale about two people who fall in love at first sight. Allie McHale is a busy woman taking care of her ranch and horse, Cece. During a snowstorm she hears a loud crash by her home and goes out to make sure everyone is alight. But to her horror, two people are found trapped in a car; one dead and the other hurt. So she does what she can do, frees the man, and takes him back to her barn until the storm passes. But this man, Jacob, has a bit of a past. Can Allie look past Jacobs’s trouble? Or will the two be in for a long winter’s night together? You’ll have to read to find out!
All in all I enjoyed this short Christmas read. What I liked most is the complexity of Jacob’s character. He isn’t just one of those sappy men we read about in most romance novels rather, he is dealing with quite a bit and readers are able to get a sense of this even though the novel is short. Basically, he is just different- something we don’t see all the time. Maybe it’s because he is a “criminal”? What I also liked about this story is where and how it took place- on Christmas Eve, in a barn, on a cold and snowy night, while helping to deliver a foal. How sweet! I loved how this was a big part of the book as I am a huge animal lover. Also, nothing brings Christmas better to mind than a good, strong snow storm!
Finally, the only thing that left me questioning character intentions in this book is how quickly (and rather suddenly) the characters started to catch feelings. Having only known each other for a span of a few hours made me scratch my head a little because it isn’t too realistic for most people. However, I suppose it is possible to fall in love at first sight. Isn’t that the magic of Christmas AND what this story is all about?
So, if you are looking for a light, holiday read than I suggest this one. It’s a beautifully written and engaging story that will delight readers and all fans of love and Christmas!
