★★★★ 4 Dangerous Stars ★★★★
I was asked by the publisher to read/review this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
When Emily Wayborn goes home to visit her mom while on hiatus from her hit TV show, she receives a voicemail from her former best friend, Amber. Though the two were once notorious party girls, they haven't spoken in years. Although the message might sound benign to anyone else, Amber uses a safe word that Emily recognizes, a word they always used to get out of sticky situations during their wild days. And what's more chilling than the voicemail: it turns out that Amber has gone missing.
Determined to track down her friend, Emily follows a chain of clues that lead her to the enigmatic billionaire Reeve Sallis, a hotelier known for his shady dealings and play boy reputation. Now, in order to find Amber, Emily must seduce Reeve to learn his secrets and discover the whereabouts of her friend. But as she finds herself more entangled with him, she finds she's drawn to Reeve for more than just his connection to Amber, despite her growing fear that he may be the enemy. When she's forced to choose where her loyalty lies, how will she decide between saving Amber and saving her heart?
This is the first book I have read by the author. While I did find Emily’s character to be a bit unusual (this girl honestly has no self-respect probably due to her past), I overall enjoyed the story. The author is able to weave romance (or should I say erotica) and suspense throughout the book in an exceptional way. She also does a good job at making mundane characters into complex ones. And, she kept me engaged throughout the story. But be warned readers, this one ends in a cliffhanger- one that will make you needing the second book that comes out in June of 2016.
The story is about a woman named Emily who is searching for a friend that has gone missing. While the two haven’t seen each other in years, the safe word that she (Amber) uses lets Emily know she is in serious trouble. So Emily goes on a quest to find her long lost friend who may be in the hands of unsafe company. Forward a bit more in the book we meet Reeve. He is the sexy billionaire who Emily suspects has done something to her friend. But even though she knows he could be a killer, she begins a torrid relationship with him anyways. Did he kill Amber? Is there more going on that what Emily once thought?
One thing that I found to be the best when it comes to this book is the way the author uses flashbacks to give us a glimpse into the life of Amber and Emily. Both girls use their good looks to hook men- they like their sugar daddies. While we have no idea what happened to Amber we do get a good glimpse of what her life was like, ultimately letting us “get to know” her character. This is pretty cool because typically when a character isn’t “present” we don’t know much about them. But through these flashbacks I got a great idea into her character. This is a major plus for the book.
Overall, this is a good book. I look forward to reading the second book next year although I wish we didn’t have to wait that long!
