“The worst monsters are the ones that don’t look like monsters, because they fool you into complacency with their beauty. While you’re busy mooning over their six packs or their dazzling baby blues, they sneak up behind you, hit you over the head with a club, and drag you back to their cave.”
This book is probably one of the best dark romances I have read thus far. The book starts off with a woman named Joan (aka Daisy) drinking at a bar one night looking to go home with a man. Little does she know that someone is watching her every move waiting for a chance to grab her. Enter tall, dark, handsome, and deadly, Elliot. Joan is attracted to him from the moment she sets eyes on him yet, she senses danger lurking. Is Elliot a good guy? Of course not, this is a dark romance after all.
Elliot rapes Joan in the bar all the while believing her name is Daisy. When finished he leaves her but later finders her again walking home. Joan thinks she’s escaped this mad man but ohh no, he captures her again and brings her back to her house where he keeps her in captivity. Sounds like a familiar story line right? Well it is. But it gets better.
Unlike some of the female characters in these types of books Joan is able to escape her capture. She never gives up a fight. She is feisty, forceful, and brave. Although she was abused and tortured in horrible ways she is able to move on… but only for two years. Joan, being the crazy bitch that she is, for some reason craves Elliot even though he hurt her beyond your wildest imaginations. She thinks of him and even stalks him to see what he’s been doing since her escape. Doing this though made him find his way back to her. And every shred of hope she had of being a free woman is taken right back from her. Disturbingly what she ran from years before suddenly became something she needed and craved.
I hated him, but I craved him. I wanted him dead, but I also wanted him to fill me up and fuck me and hold me tight against his unyielding body.”
