If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the orchard.
The last person Griffin Shipley expects to find stuck in a ditch on his Vermont country road is his ex-hookup. Five years ago they’d shared a couple of steamy nights together. But that was a lifetime ago.
At twenty-seven, Griff is now the accidental patriarch of his family farm. Even his enormous shoulders feel the strain of supporting his mother, three siblings and a dotty grandfather. He doesn’t have time for the sorority girl who’s shown up expecting to buy his harvest at half price.
Vermont was never in Audrey Kidder’s travel plans. Neither was Griff Shipley. But she needs a second chance with the restaurant conglomerate employing her. Okay—a fifth chance. And no self-righteous lumbersexual farmer will stand in her way.
They’re adversaries. They want entirely different things from life. Too bad their sexual chemistry is as hot as Audrey’s top secret enchilada sauce, and then some.
NOTE: The new series is set in Vermont. True North is populated by the tough, outdoorsy mountain men that populate the Green Mountain State. They raise cows and they grow apples. They chop a lot of wood, especially when they need to blow off steam. (Beards are optional but encouraged.)
I adored this book to pieces! It is essentially a second chance romance with some really swoon worthy characters and a kick ass, no nonsense heroine. My reading experience with this one was amazing. I devoured it in less than a day because I simply could not get enough of the story. The author brings to light a beautiful romance between two people who are clearly meant to be together while also throwing in some delicious food and cider. The setting of the story is great (not many have their stories set in Vermont) and I felt like I was on the farm with them! Actually, I wouldn’t mind living on the farm with Griff…. Having never read a book by the author before I can now say for certain that I will be continuing the series AND picking up her other novels. YAY! I am so excited that I found a new author and series to fall in love with. To those interested in this series, this is Griff and Audrey’s story. The other books will follow a new couple. So yes, you can read it as a standalone! But I highly recommend reading the books in order so you can get to know the secondary characters better.
Griff and Audrey met in college. They had a few flings and then she disappeared from his life. So imagine his surprise when he runs into her again… While her car is stuck in a ditch near his farm… Both are equally surprised to see each other after all this time. And while there is some hostility there is no denying that the two have chemistry. It simply never went away… just fermented.
Griff works on his family farm. He has a love for it, and enjoys producing some of the best apple cider in the state. But he has some stuff weighing on his mind. He has to put his two younger siblings through college, and the way things are running now this seems like it’s going to be difficult. Add to the mix an old fling who walked away without a goodbye and you find Griff in a very sticky situation.
Audrey wants to be a chef. This has been her dream ever since she failed out of college. But becoming the chef she wants to be is going to be hard work. She has to do a lot of jobs should would rather not even be a part of. One of those is going to Vermont and speaking with the farmers about selling their products to her boss’s restaurant. So imagine her surprise when one of those farms belongs to an ex fling… It takes all Audrey has to keep her distance. Especially because she can’t fight the feelings that are conjured up whenever she is in his presence…
Overall, this is a BEAUTIFUL and SWEET love story. There is some angst, and a love that blossoms and brews a second time around. The characters are amazing, real, and completely down to earth. I wouldn’t think twice about befriending either one of them. Griff is swoon worthy- his is that sexy farmer many readers will fantasize about for a long time coming. And to make it even better, he is a total sweetheart. Audrey is an amazing heroine and I am going to miss her. Hopefully, the author will write a little something more for these two… I don’t think their story should end here. If you haven’t read this book yet YOU NEED to. It’s really pretty freakin amazing. Obviously, I highly recommend it!
