Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris
Midnight, Texas series Book 1
Paranormal and Fantasy
Release Date: May 2014
Overall Rating: 5 Stars
Midnight Texas is just as magical as Bon Temps only the characters are much more mysterious! Having seen some mixed reviews on this book I wasn’t sure as to whether it would be a hit or miss. For me, this book is a total hit! I love how the main character of this series is Manfred (you may recognize this name if you have read The Harper Connolly series- he was a minor character). AND I loved each and every resident of Midnight, even though they are ALL hiding secrets. This book is a bit drier than the Stackhouse series, but I loved it all the same. There is a lot of mystery, suspense, and interesting characters- like, a talking cat! Much of the story is also paranormal as there is a vampire and a witch in the novel as well. Did I love this book? YUP. And I am a little surprised that others didn’t as much. I can’t wait to read the other two novels in the series to see where Harris takes the characters next!
Within Midnight, Texas, the residents are all hiding from something or hiding secrets. Everyone seems to keep to themselves when it comes to their past but all would stick by their friends in moments of need. When Manfred moves in next to the Pawnshop he has no idea what he is getting himself into. He wants to live a quiet life as he is a psychic and wants to do his job in peace, especially after he lost his beloved grandmother. But soon after he moves in death comes to town. And it’s up to the residents to figure out what is going on in the small town of Midnight…
Overall, I loved this book- and I would read anything that Harris writes with a smile on my face. She just has a way with words and bringing out of the ordinary characters to life. Typically, I like to read stories that feature a strong female read as I feel like I connect with a female better (probably because I am one myself) but Harris did an amazing job with Manfred’s character and I could have cared less that he was male! Fans of paranormal reads should definitely give this novel a try!
