Psychological Thriller & Suspense
Release Date: September 2014
This book totally hypnotized me. From the get-go, I couldn’t put it down. Not since I have read GONE GIRL have I been so thoroughly engrossed in a story with insane characters and crazy twists. YIKES. I loved this book and devoured it so quickly that I didn’t even realize I read 200 pages in one sitting. It’s that good. For a debut novel (which was published in 2014 btw) this book is pure perfection and now I have to go ahead and read the second book HIDDEN BODIES. I simply cannot get enough.
Anyway, this book is so unique. It takes us into the mind of a very unreliable narrator who also happens to be a stalker and killer. The whole book is told in his point of view as he secretly takes over the life of the woman (Beck) who he has been stalking for months. Why is he unreliable? Because it is pretty clear that he thinks his actions are justifiable. He has no problems being perverted (i.e. watching her masturbate and walk naked in her apartment), or snooping through all of her emails. He even goes as far to eliminate those he thinks are standing in his way. What’s even more scary about this book and the narrator is the fact that readers can easily side with him even though we know he is twisted in the head. For some reason, I felt this undeniable almost hypnotic connection with him. He’s crazy, yes, but he is also kind of brilliant. It’s like the author has a keen sense for those who need a little twist in their life and she delivers in his character. The woman that he is stalking is not easy to connect with. I think this is one of the main reasons that readers end up connecting with the psycho of the book. She is one of those characters that uses people for her own needs. She makes men fall for her only to leave them stranded when she gets what she needs. She is also extremely needy. When she has no one to turn to, she actually turns to the man who is stalking her. Yea he’s nuts, but they have a weird connection. You see, he’s not the stalker that hides in the shadows. He’s the stalker that is so close to the victim that he fools her into thinking he is just a normal guy who wants to date her. WOW. It’s just a crazy ride all the way though!
If you haven’t read this book yet than I highly recommend doing so. It’s an amazingly written psychological thriller that will leave you questioning about the people you have in your life…
