Twin Piques by Tracie Banister
Chick Lit, Humor, Romantic Comedy
Released: January 3, 2015
Forensic accountant Sloane Tobin and kooky pet psychic Willa may have the same face, but that’s the only thing these identical twins have in common.
How she can read the hearts and minds of animals has always been a mystery to Willa, and her rotten luck with men is equally baffling. Although she’s been looking for “The One” for what feels like forever (A teenage marriage to a French mime and dating a guy named Spider seemed like good ideas at the time!), optimistic Willa refuses to give up on love. When she meets Brody, the handsome rose expert hired to save her grandmother’s garden, she’s instantly smitten, but why does he keep sending her mixed signals? Does he return her feelings, or is their attraction all in her fanciful head?
Unlike her twin, Sloane has zero interest in romance. Her passion is her job, where she uses her gift for numbers to take down slimy embezzlers and asset-hiding spouses. When she’s assigned two high profile cases, Sloane feels confident the promotion she’s been angling for is within her grasp. But will her plan to climb the corporate ladder be thwarted by difficult clients, her co-worker-with-benefits, or – most surprisingly of all – her own sister? And how’s she supposed to stay focused on the drama at work when her childhood friend, Gav, moves in next door and the spark between them becomes impossible to ignore?
To get what they both want, can Willa and Sloane band together and rely on each other’s strengths? Or will their differences drive them apart once and for all?
I love being able to find a wonderful and new chick lit author, and this is exactly what happened after I read TWIN PIQUES. This story is a definite 5 star read for me. It has quite a bit of humor (my favorite), two very cool but total opposite twin sisters, and DOGS (I love dogs). Gah, this is the perfect romantic comedy / chick lit book to sink your teeth into. I honestly cannot say enough good things about it!
Anyway, the book is about two twin sisters who, although are very similar, are also very different. WILLA, for instance is the easy going one. She is the type of sweet and charming character that readers will easily fall in love with. She also is a pet psychic (how cool is that). On the other hand, Sloane is the harder sister, she is more career focused than anything else, but still she is very relatable and charming. What I love about both of these characters is the way the author is able to make each one relatable for everyone. There are many people (like me) who are severely easy going while some woman out there are much more focused on their job. This is fine of course, and really picks up the differences in people throughout the world. So, no matter who reads this, you’re bound to relate to one if not both of the characters.
In addition to the amazing characters, the plot in this book is overall perfect. It is fairly easy going as the two woman navigate love, life, and their feelings. However, there are some emotional moments and some bumps along the way for these two as well. And as you read about them you will certainly be shaking your head saying “YUP”, “AWE”, and “You Go Girl”.
Overall, I loved this story and cannot wait to read more by the author in the future. This book has the perfect amount of chick lit qualities, emotional moments, and humor. Pick this one up friends, it’s a GOODIE!
