Genre: Murder Mystery. Thriller. Suspense.
The Breakdown by B.A. Paris is a thrilling read although guessing what was really happening in the story wasn't difficult for me. In fact, I figured out what was going on so early in the book that I could have skipped all the way to the end (just to make sure) and not have missed anything important. Sigh... On a more positive note, I did enjoy the pace of the book. It's not hard to read this one in one sitting and would fit well into a beach bag for a quick read this summer.
If you enjoyed the authors debut novel, Behind Closed Doors, then I think this will be right up your alley. I would certainly consider it a type of domestic thriller just like the debut so if you enjoyed that aspect then you will most likely enjoy this one. On the other hand, if you NEED to feel a sense of connection with the characters that you read about then I would say to skip over this one. For me, building a connection with any of them proved to be extremely difficult. This is partially due to the fact that the narrator was very unreliable (being able to tell what was real and what wasn't brings a ton of questions to light).
