Goodbye Paradise caught me off guard. From reading the blurb one may think that it leans more towards religion and living within a cult of individuals who can't see past certain ways of living life, but it's not. At all. Sure, there are some mentions of religion and the characters (or at least Josh) appear to be swayed by what their religion dictates, but it's not to a point where it overshadows the story. So don't let the blurb scare you away because it's much more (and frankly better) than what it states.
With that being said, this is a phenomenal M/M romance. It has enough heat to keep readers who like a bit of naughty in their books satiated, enough sweetness to make readers hearts flutter, and the perfect amount of love and family to make you smile. It's not a dark book and it doesn't come off as a forbidden romance (which is another thing I thought when reading the blurb), but instead, a beautiful story about embracing your heart and living the way YOU want to live life.
Sarina Bowen has brought to life two amazing characters (and even the secondary characters if I am being honest) within this novel and relating to them and connecting with them on a deep level comes easy. Josh, the hero that has a heart full of gold, is the most worried about sinning, but once he develops into the man he was made to be, let's it all go. Caleb comes off as the stronger of the two, he's a little more alpha, and a lot more "manly" but still someone readers will love unconditionally. As I mentioned above, the secondary characters are just as amazing and Maggie and Daniel (who take these two in off the streets) will show you that there are kind people in the world. Gosh I wouldn't mind reading their story, so if there is ever a chance that it will be written I will read it!
Overall, this is a wonderful novel and an eye opening experience for me as a reader. Being open-minded comes easy to me but not for all and I think this story would help people to open their minds and hearts a little bit more. Being a fan of the author I knew she would write another winner, but I didn't expect it to have such an impact on me like this one did. So, kudos Sarina. You did an amazing job with this one. Readers... I highly recommend it!
