Bridges by Maria Murnane is a wonderful women's fiction novel that really shows the value of friendships. Now, while I wish I had read the first book in the series prior to diving into this one, I did enjoy the story overall and would certainly grab a copy to start from the beginning.
In this novel, readers will meet/be reintroduced to Daphne and her group of friends- one of whom is getting married! The story takes place in New York (which is awesome as it took me on a journey to a place I have wanted to revisit for some time now) and shows the deep bond between a group of women who will make us all smile. One of the things I like most about this story, as mentioned above, is the central idea of the value of friendship. Sure, there are hard times, times when you wish you have your life together as some of your friends and so on, and seeing this made the book much more realistic.
Overall, I think Maria did a wonderful job at vividly portraying these characters and making them likable for all readers. The storyline itself is real, complicated in a way, yet totally endearing. I truly enjoyed reading this one and look forward to both going back to see where these women and their stories started but also reading more from the author in the future.
