Boys of Summer #2 (standalone)
Contemporary. Sports Romance
Rating: 5 stars
The second novel in New York Times bestselling author Heidi McLaughlin's Boys of Summer baseball series.
Cooper Bailey finally has a shot at being a major league ballplayer, but it will take all his focus and energy during spring training to make it happen. Complicating things is his instantaneous connection with Ainsley Burke. He can't get enough of her, and before he knows it, they're spending every night together. But as happy as he is off the field, his focus on it is suffering, and he isn't willing to risk his lifelong dream over a girl.
But without Ainsley, Cooper's miserable, and his game is still off. No matter what he tries, he can't get her out of his head, and he's starting to realize that maybe he doesn't want to. Baseball is just a game, but Ainsley might be the real thing. Now he just has to convince her of that.
Woah!!! This book is unexpectedly filled with emotion. Had I known this to begin with I would have had some tissues on hand! Eeek! Anyway, this is a really GREAT book and I loved reading it. It's the perfect mix of heart and soul that I have been craving in a read, so think you Heidi McLaughlin! It's also a sports romance which, let's be honest, makes it even better! Other than that, readers will definitely love this one because it's not your typical romance. Heidi McLaughlin has upped her game in giving us an emotion filled and sometimes, funny book with relatable characters, a strong plot, and a hero that will ultimately melt your heart. What I love most about him is the fact that he isn't like other sports hero's that we meet in other books. Instead of being an arrogant player (which is way overused in the romance genre) we get a humble and down to earth hero who comes off as pretty shy and sweet. The heroine is just as wonderful as well, but let me say she carries some emotional baggage that will leave you teary eyed.
So, should you purchase this one? Absolutely! In fact, I highly recommend this book. It's got so many great things going for it that it would be foolish to skip it. It's different than the romances many are accustomed too, and definitely stands out in the genre. So grab your copy!
