Read my Book Review
Release Date: May 15, 2017
Genre: New Adult Romance
Before I dive into my review, let it be known that I do adore Abbi Glines. My favorite series of hers are the Rosemary Beach series and the Field Party series. So just because I didn't like this book doesn't mean I don't care about her books and the amount of work she puts into them because I honestly do. Unfortunately, this book just did not work for me in the slightest.
Why? I felt nothing while reading it. There was no buildup in terms of the relationship, and the love triangle got on my nerves. The characters came off as silly, predictable, and whiny. The dating between a group of brothers destroyed any semblance of emotion that I may have felt. And the plot? It was rushed and again, predictable. Normally, I will dive into Abbi's releases without a second thought and end up loving them. But with all the crap I had to go through in order to just READ this book (i.e. amazon screwing up the pages- buying, returning, re-buying etc.) I should have known not to get involved with it. But I did. And I am disappointed with it.
This book is Dixie and Asher's story. The two used to have a fling back when they were younger but Asher took off for three years without a word). In the meantime, Dixie starts to date his brother and end up almost engaged. But when Asher comes back into town after a 3 year absence, her whole world is tilted on it's axis. -- Obviously at some point Dixie would see Asher again because he is the brother of her "fiance". So her surprise, shock, and hurt a seeing him again annoyed me. Duh! You're dating his brother... You'll eventually have to see him. -- Anyway, eventually Dixie finds out the reason why he left her all those years ago (I won't spoil it here), and it's for a pretty good reason. But had there been any type of communication (which there wasn't) all the pain could have been easily avoided. Now she knows the truth, the secret is solved, she leaves her fiance, and she's back with Asher. Pretty much, this sums up how much emotion you get out of the characters- nothing-. There is a little more drama towards the end that I never saw coming, but it didn't save the book for me because it reminded me of another one of the author's books in the Rosemary Beach series. So being used again kind of ruined it for me.
As you can see, this book was just not my cup of tea. I feel bad about giving it a low rating of course because I do love Abbi Glines and her books, but nothing about this worked and I have to give my friends and followers an honest review. In the meantime, would I read the next book in the series? Sure, I think I will give it a try. But I hope to enjoy it a lot more.
