Genre: Young Adult Romance (with a little suspense)
Sigh. I feel like I was waiting for this book for so long that I set myself up for being disappointed. And I was. Cracked Kingdom is the 5th book in the Royals series (which MUST be read in order) and picks up right where Fallen Heir left off. This is Easton and Hartley's story, their conclusion. I'm wondering if we are going to be getting the twins story next? Anyway, this one was GOOD but not GREAT. With it picking up right after a huge cliffhanger, I was hoping it would hold a bit more emotion and love but it sadly didn't. Much of the story revolved around Hartley's problem (view spoiler) and less around her and Easton's tumultuous relationship. This bothered me because the way the authors set these two up in the previous book made it seem like they were absolutely in love with one another, but I didn't feel it here. This really bummed me out. It also incorporated a bit more suspense than I was anticipating. Normally this wouldn't bother me but for this book it felt off. I feel like it should have been more about Easton and Hartley and less about their family problems.
Aside from all that, the cover on this book is great! I love the covers in this whole series. They are eye catching, unique, and just plain fun. The ending of the book was great too. I was glad to see at least one relationship get tied up in a pretty little bow (even though it was totally out of left field).
I don't know. I feel like Cracked Kingdom was really rushed and the previous books in the series left us feeling like this would be like them when in all truths it was not (for me anyway). I guess it all comes down to readers perspective. For me, I was dissatisfied, but not so much that I hated the book. It just didn't feel to me like it flowed with the rest of the series.
