by her naiveté and charm. The two spend a whirlwind summer together that ends on the knife-point of heartbreak and forces them to go their separate ways.
Years later, when fate finds them together once again, they will discover the terrifying depth of the secrets they kept from each other, and learn that shattered hearts can only be healed by a love that willfully refuses to die.

I have been anticipating the release of this book since it was announced because The Little Mermaid has always been my favorite fairytale and this of course, puts a spin on it. With that being said, WOW. This book blew me away! So much in fact that I see it in my top 10 best romances of all time and staying there. Gah! I loved this book to pieces! It is sweet, swoon worthy, a little angsty, and powerful! Why powerful? Because true love emits from the pages and makes readers FEEL. I had butterflies in my stomach when reading it actually... Overall, it's just a truly beautiful read and I couldn't recommend it enough to fellow romance lovers. Now I am going to have to go back and read ALL the books in this series (which are all standalone, modern fairytales) because Katy Regnery has made a fangirl out of me with this book. THANK YOU!!!
As I mentioned above, this is a modern retelling of The Little Mermaid. Now, while it doesn't necessarily follow exactly with that fairytale, it is close enough... Maybe even better? How the author did this, I simply do not know, but she did and it's amazing. Anyway, in this book we meet Laire (teehee, you can spell Ariel with these letters - so cute-) the fisherman's daughter who is quite inexperienced when it comes to relationships and boys. In fact, her naivete is quite strong and believable in terms of where she comes from and how she grew up (I loved this). In addition to this we meet our hero, Eric who is as charming as they come. Eric, a dingbatter, is very different in comparison to Laire as he is the governor's son and rich. I suppose one could say that their relationship is forbidden as well because the two come from such different walks of life that neither parents would condone their relationship. But no matter the circumstances or social class, these two cannot help but fall for one another. But their love, as strong as it is, cannot overcome their different lifestyles and the two are separated for many years (if you want to know WHY and HOW you'll need to read it). But when they come face to face again... Fireworks explode. But can they manage and overcome what tore them apart? Or will their love forever fall in the shadows of lies and secrets? READ IT to find out!
Overall, I loved this book! If I could give it 6 solid stars, I would. So I highly recommend it to fellow readers. Give it a go and enjoy this fairytale masterpiece!
